ECONOMIC EDUCATION ON YOUTUBE?!
„Who cares about economy – it doesn’t affect me anyway.“ But: economy does affect everyone, even if you don’t realize that every day and it surely isn’t as boring as you might think. The 26-part series „What I never wanted to know about economy“, shot by famous german YouTubers and produced in collaboration with MESH Collective and the Joachim Herz foundation, shows how economic topics actually do co-determine the everyday life of teenagers and young adults. In each video one of the YouTubers, either TenseMakeSense, Die Klugscheisserin, Malwanne, MrWissen2go, Darkviktory, Dr. Allwissend or aWish, pick an economic topic which they personally find exiting or worthy to explore.
The videos were produced throughout the year 2015 and are continuously being published on the YouTuber’s channels.
The idea behind the series was to produce easily understandable and humorous videos that never fail in their aim to describe basic economic relations.
The campaign, promoting economic topics to a younger audience, was met with success: The video „Is saving money that difficult?“, produced for the YouTube channel “TenseMakesSense”, won second place in one of Germanys most prestigious film awards, the German Economic Movie Award, in the category „Movies In New Media“.
